What are the benefits of flat roof windows?

One of the most significant advantages of installing a flat rooflight is the instant boost in natural light that floods your interior space. This is particularly beneficial when your room lacks sufficient wall window space.

Fixed rooflights provide a steady source of natural light, while hinged models allow for both light and ventilation control. Regardless of your choice, all our flat rooflights feature premium quality glass to ensure optimal light transmission. For added convenience, some of our rooflights can be electronically operated, making them perfect for high, out-of-reach locations. With a flat rooflight, you can transform any room into a bright, welcoming space that harnesses the power of natural light.

Do you need planning permission for a flat roof window?

Installing rooflights or skylights in your home usually doesn't require planning permission, provided you adhere to certain limits and conditions.

Firstly, any installed windows must not protrude more than 150 millimetres above the existing roof plane.

Secondly, no alteration should be higher than the highest part of the roof or extend above the roof ridge.

Lastly, for privacy reasons, side-facing windows must feature obscure glazing and should not be openable unless they are situated at least 1.7m above the floor level.

However, it's always advisable to consult your local planning department, as there may be specific nuances that apply to your property, such as conservation area restrictions or listed building status. By understanding and complying with these guidelines, you can seamlessly integrate rooflights or skylights into your home, enhancing natural light and aesthetic appeal.
