Long life expectancy

EPDM membranes have a minimum life expectancy of 30 years, but in reality should last 50 years in reasonable climate conditions.

What thickness EPDM should I use?

1.2mm EPDM is suitable for any flat roof where nothing is going to be installed on top, and is an economic choice for most projects.

For situations where the membrane will have something like decking or ballast overlaid, then 1.5 mm is recommended, however many people prefer the peace of mind of using the 1.5mm thickness, even when nothing is being installed on top.

Can you walk on EPDM roof?

Yes, you can walk on an EPDM roof. However, you should not do so regularly unless the roof has been modified to allow for regular foot traffic.

Do you have to glue down an EPDM roof?

To hold the synthetic rubber membrane to different parts of the roof, two kinds of adhesives are required. Water-based adhesive is best suited to the main area of the wooden base, where the rubber roofing will be attached to the surface.
Contact adhesives are required on the perimeter of a roof and on any vertical surfaces.
