For the first time in over 60 years, Scottish slate is poised to make a comeback to the market.
The Isle of Luing Community Trust has successfully secured £1.75 million from the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF) to reopen the Cullipool quarry on the Isle of Luing, Argyll & Bute. This development holds significant importance for Scotland, as it will facilitate authentic conservation efforts for Scotland's heritage stock, enhance Scotland's supply chain resilience, and create new job opportunities.

A technical briefing on the Luing project will be presented by Graham Briggs of Historic Environment Scotland at the NFRC Scotland Regions Members' Day, Hamilton Park Racecourse, on May 28.
The Luing scheme is one of 24 projects sharing £21.5 million from the RCGF and the Vacant & Derelict Land Investment Programme. Notably, Luing is the only construction-materials venture, which addresses the long-standing gap in Scottish slate supply.
