Ecofin Pro Liquid Waterproofing: Installation Guide

Ecofin Pro Liquid Waterproofing: Installation Guide

Flat surface application

Key points:

  • Apply more liquid coating first, aiming to lay down about 70–80% of the total coating before adding matting.
  • Ensure the roller leaves visible liquid so you can stop and still clearly see a wet film on the surface.
  • Look for ripples or “bark lines” in the liquid as a visual indicator that enough material is present.
  • Position the matting into the wet coating without adding more liquid at this stage.
  • Work the existing liquid up through the matting to fully saturate it, rather than pouring on additional product.

Applying Liquid Roof Coating to Stairs or Steps

Key points:

  • Apply the Ecofin Pro system to stair treads and risers so the coating runs as one continuous, watertight layer over all changes in level.
  • Reinforce stair nosings and edges carefully to prevent cracking or wear at high-traffic points.
  • Dress the waterproofing up adjacent upstands and sidewalls to maintain full containment around the stair flight.
  • Pay particular attention to corners and junctions between steps, landings, and walls to avoid pinholes or weak spots.

Corner details for Ecofin liquid roofing

Key points:

  • Do a dry run with the matting first so you know how it will sit in the corner before adding liquid.
  • Fray the matting edges rather than cutting to shape; the mat will naturally form around the corner.
  • Apply liquid coating first, then place the matting from one angle to the next, starting with the top line and working down so it is not stuck in two places at once.
  • Use a detail (dish) roller to strike through the matting, show how much liquid is available, and avoid adding unnecessary extra liquid.
  • Push the mat slightly into the bottom angle to ensure tight contact, then consolidate with a paddle (or pan) roller to drive liquid through and gauge out excess product.
  • When lapping matting, always use the frayed edge into the lap or, if going to a straight edge, take the straight angle into it so the lap is lost visually.
  • Once the mat is fully encapsulated, the detail becomes instantly showerproof and water will not affect it.
  • After the upper areas have settled, check for pinholes and use the detail roller along the lines to bring liquid through and help shape the mat into the corner.

Applying Ecofin Pro liquid waterproofing around pipe openings

Key points:

  • Do a dry run with the matting around the pipe first, cutting it to size and shaping it before applying any liquid.
  • If you cannot slide the mat over the top of the pipe, tear the mat down the band and wrap it around instead.
  • For an upstand of 150 mm, cut the mat at about 140 mm to give some leeway above the pipe.
  • Avoid straight, hard edges at the base; lightly fray the matting so it adheres more easily and beds into the liquid.
  • Apply roughly 70–80% of the liquid coating first so there is a generous wet film in front of the roller.
  • Place the mat into the wet coating and do not add more product initially; work the existing liquid up through the mat to encapsulate it and soften it.
  • Use the frayed edge to form a small “stick” around the pipe, making it easier to work and seal tightly.
  • Once the mat is fully encapsulated, add the remaining ~30% of coating to remove any dry spots.
  • Allow the detail to settle, then check for pinholes and add a little extra liquid only where needed.
