Installation Guide for FlexiProof Shed Roofing Kits

Here's a quick isntallation guide for Flexiproof's rage of EPDM shed roof kits:

Removing Old Felt

Begin by stripping away the existing felt roofing material. Remove all old felt, adhesive residue, and nails to create a clean working surface. Check the timber roof deck for any rot, damage, or weak spots that require repair before proceeding. The deck must be structurally sound to support the new EPDM membrane.

Preparing the Roof Deck

Ensure the timber deck is completely dry, as moisture trapped beneath the membrane compromises adhesion. Clean the surface thoroughly, removing all dirt, debris, and loose material that could interfere with bonding. The deck should be smooth and level, with no protruding nails or sharp edges that might damage the rubber membrane.

Unrolling and Positioning the Membrane

Carefully unroll the FlexiProof EPDM membrane across your prepared shed roof. Allow the rubber to relax and return to its neutral state before beginning adhesive application. Position the membrane to ensure adequate overhang on all sides – the extra material supplied in the kit allows for proper edge coverage.

The single-sheet construction eliminates onsite joining work, making installation straightforward even for novice DIYers. This prejoined design reduces potential leak points and simplifies the fitting process.

Applying Water-Based Deck Adhesive

Using the supplied adhesive application roller, apply an even coat of water-based deck adhesive to the timber roof deck. Work systematically across the surface, maintaining consistent coverage for reliable bonding. The water-based formulation makes this adhesive safe and easy to work with compared to solvent-based alternatives.

Follow the manufacturer's recommended coverage rates and application techniques detailed in the installation guide. Proper adhesive application is critical for long-term membrane performance.

Bonding the Membrane

Once adhesive is applied, carefully position the EPDM membrane onto the deck surface. Work from one end to the other, pressing the rubber firmly into the adhesive to ensure complete contact. Use a wallpaper roller or similar tool to remove any air bubbles and achieve thorough bonding across the entire roof deck.

Pay particular attention to edges and perimeter areas, as these zones are most vulnerable to wind lift. Around the shed edges, contact bonding adhesive provides superior adhesion strength compared to water-based deck adhesive.

Trimming and Finishing

After bonding the membrane, trim excess rubber using sharp scissors or a utility knife. The generous material allowance in FlexiProof kits ensures you have sufficient overhang for neat edge finishing. If using optional metal edge trims or drip trims, install these according to manufacturer specifications for a professional appearance.
